Restorative

Deep relaxation of the body, mind and spirit, using props.

A style of yoga practice using props and postures held for longer periods of time to initiate deep relaxation of the body, mind and spirit. Restorative yoga is beneficial to balance a more active practice or decompress after a stressful day.

Level 1-2 20 mins

Learn how to release deep tension within the hips using prop-supported postures. This slow, soothing, and methodical approach will relax every muscle that compromises the hip joint from hours of sitting. Props Suggested: a bolster and a wall.

A slow-paced, restful class focused on relaxing the nervous system and preparing for sleep. Maintain each posture for 5-15 minutes. Studies show that daily periods of relaxation are essential to overall health so this is great for anyone healing from an injury or illness, suffering from insomnia, or just need to release agitation from the day and prepare for a night of rest. Props Required: 2 blocks, 3-4 blankets, 1 bolster, 1 strap, and a wall. Props Suggested: Eye pillow or small towel.

Learn deeply restorative postures that settle the nervous system and promote calm throughout the body and mind. Use supportive bolsters and blankets to find your most relaxed state. Props Required:1 bolster, 2 blankets.

Learn how to reduce tension while promoting sleep and relaxation through a traditional, restorative practice of supported Forward Folds and inversions. Long holds allow the body to truly release stress and tension throughout and signals the brain that it is safe for the body to let go and move into relaxation mode. Props Required: Bolster and a wall.

A gentle practice with easy poses to calm the body and nervous system before sleep. Begin with breathwork, seated stretches, and a restorative 5- to 7-minute supported savasana. Props Required: Bolster or pillows.

Work desk stress is real, and it affects more than just your mind. Pain can also show up in your lower-back. Here’s a restorative sequence to support and strengthen weak spots and mobilize stiffness. Begin with simple spinal decompression exercises, then counter-balance with core work. Feel relief in the lower back, sacrum and hips. This uniquely supported Savasana allows you to emerge soothed, strong and ready. Required Props: 2 blocks, blanket, bolster or towel.

This peaceful practice can start the day off right, accompany a cup of tea, or leave you cuddled up in bed on a rainy day. Enjoy a series of mellow stretches (almost all on the back) with lots of prop support that is sure to get the kinks out. Props Needed: A blanket and a bolster.

Wake up and get your body moving for the day, then luxuriate in a long, rejuvenating pose that will start your day with stillness and focus. Warm-up gradually with an active first half of class that includes downward dogs, cobras, and lunges in order to better receive the benefits of a morning Restorative pose. Props Needed: A bolster and two blocks. Props Suggested: 1-2 blankets.

Prime your nervous system for deep sleep in just fifteen restful minutes. Use the assistance of props to create a supportive and peaceful atmosphere in which to sink into mellow twists and legs up the wall, then close with calming nadi shodhana. Props Needed: A bolster, two blocks, and wall space.

This restorative class is great for athletes who are feeling low energy or recovering from high-intensity training or game day. Discover the value of purposeful downtime as you replenish your body with a supported twist, restful supine pose, and nourishing savasana. Props Needed: A blanket and a bolster.

We all have days when fatigue sets in and our weary bodies seem to send us an SOS. This class is all about answering that call with deep rest and rejuvenation. Using your props as support, sink deeply into forward bends, twists, and heart openers, releasing all effort and letting the tiredness begin to drain away. Props Needed: A bolster, a blanket, and two blocks.

The next time you're suffering from a headache or feel one coming on, try this acupressure practice for some relief. You'll use a therapy ball and a block to target key points in your calves and neck, helping to release tension that can cause pain. Props Needed: A therapy ball and a block.
