Known to friends, family and fans simply as KD, Krishna Das has taken the call-and-response chanting of traditional kīrtan out of yoga centers and into concert halls with his accessible melodies and modern instrumentation. His remarkably soulful voice and signature style have made him a worldwide icon and the best-selling western chant artist of all time.

"The chanting just hits you and you want to be a part of it", KD promises. "That's the point of this whole thing. That's what cuts through all the 'stuff'. You get lit up. You don't have to know what it means."

KD spent the late '60's traveling across the country as a student of Ram Dass. In 1970 he went to India to study with Ram Dass' beloved guru, Neem Karoli Baba, known to most as Maharaj-ji, and began to chant as part of following the path of Bhakti yoga. After returning to the US and discovering shortly after that Maharaj-ji had died, he took solace in music, finding peace and strength in both his yoga practice and in such heroes as Ray Charles, Van Morrison, Steely Dan and Bruce Springsteen.

In 1994, KD began leading chant at Jivamukti Yoga Center, NYC, with an ever-growing audience of yoga students that soon expanded worldwide. He has released more than a dozen well-received albums, was nominated for a Grammy in 2012, and performed at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
